The Chest recliner from Vismara Design is a love letter to the British Chesterfield, reinterpreted for the modern private cinema. Where the 19th-century original was a fixed gentleman's-club sofa, the Chest takes the same vocabulary — deep button tufting, hand-quilted leather, generous proportions — and engineers it into a fully motorised reclining cinema chair. The result is a piece that anchors a room with the gravity of traditional furniture while delivering the sit and sightlines of a purpose-built theatre seat.
Design lineage
- Heritage: directly inspired by the classic Chesterfield silhouette — rolled arms, equal-height back, deep tufting.
- Contemporary execution: tighter geometry, refined proportions, and a motorised recline that the original could never offer.
- Surface treatment: deep button tufting and hand-stitched diamond quilting across the seatback and arms.
Materials
- Upholstery: full-grain leather as standard, hand-tufted with traditional button work. Bespoke leathers, suedes, and fabrics available on request.
- Frame: solid hardwood internal structure for long-term shape retention; high-density foam fillings rated for daily use.
- Stitching: all visible seams are hand-finished by Vismara's Italian craftspeople.
