Do soundbars need professional installation? Easy plug-and-play setup — VisionSounds South Africa

Do Soundbars Need Professional Installation?

Short answer: no — almost all soundbars are designed to be set up yourself in a few minutes, with no installer required. Unlike a full in-wall speaker system, a soundbar is essentially plug-and-play. Here's how simple it is, and the few cases where a professional custom installer is worth calling. Browse options in our soundbar range.

The standard setup takes about 5 minutes

JBL Bar 500 soundbar easy plug and play setup South AfricaFor the vast majority of soundbars, this is the whole process:

  1. Place the bar in front of your TV, or wall-mount it with the included bracket.
  2. Connect one HDMI cable from the bar to the TV's HDMI eARC/ARC port (or use the optical cable if your TV is older).
  3. Plug in the wireless subwoofer — it pairs with the bar automatically.
  4. Turn on the TV's audio output to the soundbar, run any auto-calibration, and you're done.

The wireless subwoofer and rear speakers on systems like the JBL Bar 1000MK2 connect wirelessly — no speaker cable to run across the room.

When a professional installer makes sense

You only really need a custom-installation (CI) specialist for the more involved jobs:

  • In-wall or in-ceiling cabling — hiding cables inside the wall, or fitting ceiling speakers for a full Atmos system.
  • Wall-mounting on brick/tile or mounting a heavy bar above a fireplace where you want it perfectly level and cables concealed.
  • Whole-home or multi-room audio integrated with lighting and automation.
  • A complex AV rack with a receiver, multiple sources and a projector.

For a simple soundbar-and-sub in a normal living room, none of that applies — you've got it handled.

Buying from VisionSounds — anywhere in South Africa

Sennheiser Ambeo Mini single-unit soundbar easy setup South AfricaWe're an online retailer and we deliver soundbars to your door anywhere in the country — Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Gqeberha and everywhere between. We don't send out installers, but because soundbars are plug-and-play you won't need one for a standard setup, and every product ships with the cables and brackets to do it yourself. If your room calls for in-wall cabling or a ceiling Atmos install, we'd suggest a local CI specialist for that part — and we're happy to advise which soundbar suits the job.
